What is PIYO?
PiYo™ fuses together concepts from Pilates and yoga to create a dynamic strength-training workout. This unique exercise class will improve balance and flexibility while sculpting long, lean muscles. Core conditioning ensures a challenging and productive workout. PiYo™ is non-impact, but you can still expect to sweat.
Unique and Effective...
The unique thing about PiYo is you receive strength, flexibility and balance training all at once. Often, the moves will also have a cardio effect as well. Multi-tasking! The hyperactive exerciser’s dream! If you practice PiYo 1 time a week combined with other classes, you may find that you don’t need separate strength training. Hauling your body weight through PiYo is plenty! The first week you try PiYo you'll be amazed at the results (and soreness) in your body.
What should I wear to a PIYO class?
You’ll need a yoga mat and bare feet (socks are too slippery) or sneakers. Yoga pants and a snug-fitting tank are the best bet (lose shirts tend to slip over your head when you’re upside down).
Sum up PIYO for me...
PiYo is a hybrid, athletic workout, which combines the mind/body practices of yoga and Pilates, as well as the principles of stretch, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement. During a PiYo class, you will find yourself standing in a yoga pose one minute, and down on the floor in a Pilates pose the next!
It is a pre-designed class that will really get your heart rate going as it features various styles of yoga and Pilates in continuous movement and flow from one exercise to another. Sometimes I describe PiYo as a hyper version of yoga, but with the benefits of deep breathing, balance, stretching, strengthening and relaxation. And to top it all off, the music is awesome!
